5Great Basket, not too big, not too small  Jul 20, 2009 By Arthur Simon
This is my third Wald basket, and it's probably the best choice for most people. It's light, cheap, easy to mount and looks good. Installation was straightforward, and it matches the looks of my retro Schwinn Coffee cruiser very well. It will easily carry a typical backpack. It's a great shape for take-out food, and it makes an adequate small dog basket with a folded blanket at the bottom. It's not super strong, and it's not a good choice for heavy items. If you want to carry serious loads, then the Wald 957 is the way to go. It will hold big, heavy items and even medium sized dogs, but it's heavy, a little fussy to mount and will dominate the bike.

2Would be a nice product if....  Dec 31, 2009 By C. Schulz "bicycle rider"
I liked the idea of a front basket and this one looked good. But unfortunately it didn't work well for my situation, and I would think my situation is pretty common. The biggest problem is the handlebar mount. the brackets are bend for a small diamter, whatever that is, I'd say an inch/25.4 mm? Most handlebars these days have a larger diamter where mounted to the stem and then tapper off towards the ends. This does not work with this basket. I have tools, probably above average and managed to rebend the brackets for my off the mill stock handlebar on my average raleigh usa bike by clamping the bracket down with a c-clamp and then using a pair of plumbers pliers and that worked fine since the handlebar was made from steel. If it was alluminum, it might not have been that great for the handlebar. But even though this worked, now the screws wouldn't fit anymore, due to the slightly larger diameter, the handlebar is in the way of the screw. I believe that to be really poor design - if the brackets would have been bend for the today common stem diameter and having punched the mounting holes for that diameter, I would think it would work equally well on the "vintage" handlebar diameter by tighting the screws it would just adjust, but this way arround it does not work and this is not mentioned anywhere in the product description. Now I could hardly return the basket so I worked arround this by using cable ties, but I am concerned about the longevity of this solution. Also, since I have a straight mountain bike handlebar the basket is kind of too close to the grips and brake levers and shifters. For my setup the brackets would need to be 1.5 to 2 inches longer, then it would actually be great and I could give this product 4 or more stars.
I believe this basket will only work for you if you have the vintage handlebar diameter before they started tapering it and if your handlebar is a riser style bar with lets say at least 2 inches of rise, otherwise the basket gets in the way of the grips and levers which is borderline dangerous. If that is what you have, this might work well for you. This could be a good product if the handlebar mount could be reengineered to be more universal or adjustable and/or if at least these limitations would get mentioned in the product description.

this is a nice basket to have. I am using it on my schwinn cruiser. It the perfect size for quick trips to the store and will hold a couple of bags with ease.

5Holds my Jack Russell terrier  Jun 04, 2010 By Timothy J. Ryan "Drair"
I wanted a wide but not-too-deep front basket to drive my Jack Russell terrier around. This basket works fine for that. I did have to put a solid foam pad on the bottom so her paws wouldn't stick through but that was very easy and expected. I purchased the black finish basket and it is a nice high gloss finish; I think it might be a baked on powder coat but can't be sure. I installed the basket in about 15 minutes (really) in my garage shop--it is that easy. One installation note: the way the basket attaches to the handle bars, it is possible it will hang tilted backwards at quite an angle on some bikes. The only two options around this are to (a) lower the front fork supports, or (b) twist the handlebar attaching clamps upward (effectively raising the back of the basket). Since option (a) is not possible, owning to only one set of holes on the front fork supports, you can only adjust tilt by the second approach. This is inherently weaker, but I was able to tighten the clamps down enough that it still holds the correct angle (i.e., stays flat). Mounted in this manner I'd guess the basket would hold up to about 20 pounds carried on a routine basis, but not much more.

4Great for shopping  Jul 12, 2010 By Pinkiecat
This basket is just right for me. It's roomy and sturdy. I'm able to load 3-4 bags of groceries in it, I secure my packages with a cargo net. The Wald front basket is probably the most affordable high-quality basket available. It was easy to install but not all the hardware is included. I needed 2 nuts and bolts to attach the support rods which I got from my local bike shop. Because of the lack of hardware, I only gave a 4 star rating. It's a good basket and I would recommend it.
