3looks great, works okay...  Aug 08, 2009 By shake ade
I have a Nirve classic cruiser and this light looks great. There are several different mounting options so it is easy to make something work for your set up. The bummer is, it only works okay. It seems to eat batteries, and is a little sensitive. Sometimes when I turn it on I have to flip between the two different settings for it actually to turn on. When it is working the light is highly visible but I wonder when I will be left out in the dark when it decides not to turn on. I will likely leave it on my bike, but considering getting a small LED front light as back up.

3Meh...  Nov 07, 2010 By cruisehard "outforblood"
It is what it is...a retro bullet headlight that works only ok. For 30.00 I would expect a little more from Nirve. How hard is it to make a quality bullet light?? This is the 21 century after all. The light is barely bright enough to make out what is in front of you, ya got to squint. The led has a blue tint about it which I don't personally like. The electronics are pure crap, I had to send one back a while ago cause the switch stopped working after 1 week. So far I've been lucky with this one and I've owned it for about 6 months. Apparently Nirve is the only brand that makes this style of headlight in black.

1Classic cool looks, but cheaply made.  Sep 10, 2011 By Jack Spencer
I tend to use a product for a fair amout of time before reviewing, because nine times out of ten my first impression and what I would have written about it is wrong.

If you have a classic beach cruiser, and you want a cool looking headlight for it, this definitely fills that requirement. It's very light weight... and that's both good and bad. If your cruiser is a show-bike and doesn't see a lot of the road, get it. It looks sweet. If you are a commuter and depend on a light to actually see, then you may have to decide how important those looks are.

The mode and off/on switches are cheap pieces of junk. The mode switch, which toggles between "high" beam, "low" beam, and both, is useless. You can't see anything unless you have them both on. I could also tell with the way it loosly jiggled that it was going to be a problem. I saved the trouble when I first got it by opening it and bypassing the mode switch so the on/off activated both bulbs all the time. Worked great for a few weeks.

Then the cheap on/off switch began to fail. At this point, I have to flip it several times for the light to finally come fully on. When I get a chance, I'm going to retrofit a more durable switch in there that will work, and I will hopefully have no more problems. If it wasn't for the classic appearance that beautifully compliments my all black custom cruiser, I would simply get a more modern and much more affordable light that is surely more durable.

As for the light itself, no bicycle light is going to light up the place like daytime, so knowing the terrain and the roads your on is very important. It gives me a couple bike length's worth of light in front of me on a dark road and reflects signs. About average, I'd say.

I give it five stars on cool looks, but I'm taking away two for being fragile as an egg and causing more than a few headaches in functionality. That's actually a bit generous.

3If You Buy this for Safety, You Are Dead  Aug 04, 2011 By Patrick Murphy
'After some modification, I fit this headlamp to my Schwinn Stingray Chopper. To be honest, I purchased it mostly for aesthetics and, indeed, it looks superb on the bike: It is probably the most appropriate headlamp to put on a Stingray Chopper. That said, the illumination of the lamp itself if a joke. It struggles to light five feet of road. It is sad to think that within five minutes of instillation I am thinking about how I can modify it, changing bulbs, etc . . . , to get more light out of it. But until then, It looks striking in the daylight. Bottom line: purchase for its classic appearance and not its poor function.
