The tool you've been looking for... almost Dec 05, 2009
By Liam Casey My bike is my one and only vehicle. I use it for commuting, for work, for fun, for carrying everything from groceries to furniture. I wouldn't quite say my bike is my life, but it comes close. As such, I'm constantly looking for the perfect tool to carry in my kit. For years, that was the Crank Bros Multi-17, but when I discovered the Ratchet Rocket, the reigning champ was quickly unseated.
There are so many "duh" things about the Ratchet Rocket that it almost makes me angry noone came out with it sooner. A miniature ratchet is just such an obvious necessity, and its profile allows it to fit where many other tools just can't. Also, it uses standard 1/4" hex parts, so unlike some multitool bit-drivers (I'm looking at you, Leatherman), it's infinitely extendable. This makes it useful for far more than biking. Finally, the tool is designed so there are no "pokey bits": you can carry it in your pocket without getting jabbed or wearing a hole in your pants. This means it's always with me, so even when I'm in the shop with countless shop-quality tools around, I'm still more likely to use my Ratchet Rocket for a quick repair because it's already on me.
So why isn't it perfect? For a start, there's one glaring omission: as another reviewer said, there's no spoke wrench. Sure, spoke wrenches are small and easy to throw in your kit, but it's still one more thing to carry and it keeps the RR from being a truly universal bike tool. Also, the nylon parts leave a bit to be desired. I wasn't sure if I wanted the carrying case on my bike, but I installed it on some spare bottle bosses just to see. The first time I tried to remove the case, the release tab snapped, and now the thing is stuck on there. It's been fine so far, but I don't think that plastic will last too long, an then I'll have to find some way to pry it off so I can have my bottle cage back. Also, within 24 hours, two of the bits had come loose from the nylon sheath and now fall out if I don't hold it upright when opening the plastic cover. This gives me little faith about the nylon and leads me to think the clips holding the ratchet will give out soon enough.
All told, the Ratchet Rocket is a great tool and far easier to use than most other bike mutitools Out there. I'm probably going to buy a soft nylon belt case that can fit the RR along with an extra set of bits and a few nut drivers. That would make this a truly universal tool.
Pros: - Miniature ratchet makes adjustments very easy. - Fits into spaces many other tools can't. - Uses standard bits that can be replaced / extended at any hardware store. - Easy to carry, won't poke or scratch.
Cons: - No spoke wrench. - Nylon parts wear quickly. - Carrying case is relatively bulky, but has no room for anything else.

love it Aug 21, 2010
By Violator1200 This is the only tool i carry now other than a shock pump and spare tubes. If I don't have the tool then that means it's a major problem that needs to be taken to a shop anyway :D

The core tool you want with you when riding Oct 11, 2009
By R. A. Fiorillo This tool is great--lightweight and easy to use as opposed to those compact allen tools that can be hard to get into difficult access spots. I use this without the mount and cage. Just remember you may need to separately bring some tools that normally would be in the all-in-one kits (spoke wrenches, for example).

Cycling Essential Sep 20, 2009
By SeibelWerks Topeak products are well designed and well made and this one is a must have for your on board equipment. The ratchet really speeds up repairs, accepts all multi-tool bits as well as drives the chain tool. Just an overall well thought out tool. A driver extension would be a nice addition.
Mountain bike tool fantic May 07, 2012
By Jose I. Moya Right off the bat I knew this was what I needed. I love to work on my pick-up and have my set of tools so when I saw the Ratchet Rocket I jumped on it. Mountain biking out in the backcountry became easier to ride at ease. My pak had more space and I have used the Ratchet Rocket endlessly.
