cheap plastic housing, I returned it. Jun 16, 2010 I was shocked to find what otherwise looked like a good tool to have the main housing be made of cheap plastic. And I do mean cheap, it wasn't even the 'durable' plastic that most tire irons are made of. (why didn't they use that type if they were going to use plastic at all?)
What were they thinking? The two 'black pieces' on either side are supposed to be removable tire tools. They seemed flimsy themselves, and I would never trust them with a tire. Removing them, I found the under frame (the silver part) to be even cheaper plastic! Yes, the wrenches are metal, but there is no strength in the under-frame to support them (the part you have to torque on to apply force to the wrench head itself or to the chain tool). I would not trust this not to break under the best of conditions-- I SURELY would not trust it when I actually needed it--out on the road somewhere. I immediately returned this after purchase for a different manufacturer, and would never have purchased if I could have found this out prior to buying it.
Even with the flimsy tire irons in place for support, it's garbage. Good wrenches on a lousy foundation is a lousy tool. I hate to sound so negative but it's true.
I was extremely dissapointed that topeak would market something like this. I was sorry I purchased it. I am glad I returned it immediately.
Has it all May 17, 2010 I bought this multi-tool for my wifes bike, but after seeing it I gave her mine and kept it. There are enough tools to do most any on road repair you would need. The attached tire levers are a little week so I carry another pair. I will be ordering another one for my wifes bike.
Great Buy Apr 19, 2010 This tool is well made and compact. I keep a small wedge under my saddle with a spare tube, patches, and this and it's the perfect size. I haven't had a chance to use all the features yet but it's been sufficient for every problem I've come across thus far: cleats shifting, clips too loose, adjusting my derailleur, fixing a flat, and adjusting my saddle position.
Good general purpose bike tool Jan 20, 2010 I've had this tool for many years now, and I still haven't seen a better tool, for the price. Over the years I have used this so many times I've lost count, not just on my bike, but on countless others when their tools proved worthless (most people buy an expensive multitool from a bike shop and never learn how to use it). My only complaint is the plastic is a bit weak, but then I never trust plastic for tire levers, broke too many when I first started riding. Even though I never actually used it for removing tires, the little plastic extension intended to act as a lock on the spoke broke off soon after I bought it. I have a steel set of levers now. The only other complaint is that the plastic levers tend to get loose over time and fall out. This was the only tool I found that had exactly what I wanted to carry on the bike. I do find the spoke tools fairly useless though, as they are too long armed to use for a decent sweep around, but I guess they might be ok in an emergency. And I've never used that torx head, but maybe someday. The chain tool works very well.
Topeak Hexus Jan 09, 2010 I have yet to use all the functions on this tool, but it seems well made and a good value for the money. I purchased this mostly b/c I needed a chain tool and it functional for that, as well as being compact and multi-faceted. I have also used higher priced more "profesional" chain tools that are better for more frequent use or for more serious riders. For changing a chain on a kid's bike every now and again or for a less serious rider, I think this will do fine.
