Nothing special, but decent steel Aug 28, 2008
By New England Yankee Typical design - a screw mechanism pushing a pin, the chain held in slots. The only way these tools differ is in the quality of the materials, fit-up (e.g., slop in the screw mechanism), comfort of the handle, etc. The Park is better than most, as it's made of good steel and the screw handle (typical Park tool vinyl dip) won't slip. The grip handle is significantly better than similar tools, however, as it is nice and wide. Compare other tools with a simple steel rod handle.
If you have a really stiff link, rather than pushing the tool to the limit - possibly bending or breaking the tool's pin - give the link a good shot of penetrating oil and let it sit for an hour first. Most of the frustration with chain tools comes from situations like this or from using a light-duty, emergency tool more suitable for a bike bag tool kit.

Incorrectly described Jun 17, 2010
By D. Vu Despite what the description says, this does not fit wide 1/8" (nor 3/16") BMX/track single speed chains. This is made for narrow chains for 7/8/9/10 speed. If you try to put a 1/8" in this tool (on the incorrect shelf, it won't fit in the correct one), it will bend the chain, effectively destroying it unless you can manage to save it with a "master link" system.
For 1/2" x 1/8" or 1/2" x 3/16" BMX/track single speed chains, use the Park Tool CT-7. Only purchase this one for geared bikes.

Review PARK CT-3 heavy duty bicycle chain pin remover Nov 02, 2010
By Gene D This bicycle chain pin remover is larger and heavier than the average bike chain pin remover. It is much easier to operate than the smaller pin removers. It's too large/heavy to carry on you bike ride but great for keeping in your vehicle or at home. So, you may want to use the smaller pin remover for carrying on your rides.

Toss out that cheap chain tool - this is the one to get Mar 04, 2011
By Timazon I've used an inexpensive chain tool for years, but decided to spring for the Park Tool CT-3.
The difference is night-and-day. This tool is very high quality, rugged, and drives the chain pins effortlessly.
Yes, it's expensive, but it's worth it.

Awesome chain tool Aug 30, 2011
By Magnus Gille I've owned a few different chain tools and most have been light weight crap and hard to operate. This one feels robust, is heavy weight and pops the pins in and out easily. The construction of it makes me believe it will outlast me.
