Well, to be honest, all I have to say is that this handlebar stem is very solid. It holds its position well too! The reason that I went with an adjustable stem was so that I could change my riding position depending on what kind of riding I'll be doing. Since I am a student, money is tight thus I only have one bike. Whether I'm riding a paved trail, dirt trail, gravel, asphalt--whatever--this stem stays put! Since my one bike often doubles (or triples) as a "road" bike, commuter, or light trail mtb, this stem performs extremely well. Of course it's not "everything to everyone," but for my needs, it is PERFECT.

I am using it with a RaceFace carbon XC handlebar too, btw.

I had no problem installing this stem. It feels sturdy and adjusts easily. The only thing to take note of is I needed an additional $2.00 spacer, because this stem was a little bit narrower than my original.

I am adjusting to a new road bike (coming off a comfort bike) and the original stem (100mm 6 degree) was a bit too low and long after a few fairly long rides. To help with adapting, I wanted something a bit shorter and adjustable so I can work my way down to the proper position. This fit the bill perfectly. Yes, it's a bit heavy, but so am I, so a few ounces aren't going to make much difference at this point. It doesn't creak, is very stable, and is highly adjustable. I would recommend it.

YOu would need an extra 2.5 mm of headset spacers to compensate for the height shortage.

I suspect the vendor--"Xtreme Bike & Sport" knew about the problem (some other revieweres mentioned that--it's important to read reviews before, not after the purchase) but chose not to disclose the fact and sell the item anyway, blaming the manufacturer for that 'defect'. YOu would have hard time to find the right spacer(s), besides, the fiber spacers are pretty expensive and can cost more than I paid for the stem. I asked the vendor to rectify the problem but they wanted me to buy spacers and pay the extra for shipping.

For the same price/quality you can go with other adjustable stem brand that would comply with industry adapted standard road bike steering headset/clamp/stem sizes. All other stems I purchased, including OEM, have exact same height.

To be fair, I also purchased the other stem (non-adjustable, different brand) from the same vendor in same shipment; the stem was perfect and the delivery service was flawless.
