Shimano IG Feb 18, 2012
By bblackh1 This 7.1mm chain is only compatible with Shimano IG series components. It is not compatible with UG or HG. (Most 6-7-8 speed Shimano drivetrains are not IG.)

High quality purchase May 14, 2012
By JWinPS I started shopping for the correct chain compatible with my Shimano derailleur. I never had to replace a chain before and wasn't sure what I needed to look for. Doing some internet research on changing a bike chain, I learned that internal and external widths of the chain links matter as well as the number of speeds on the rear derailleur. This product was the correct size for my Shimano STX front, Deore LX rear derailleurs [did some internet research on my bike model to get the models.] A nice touch on this chain is the off-silver look to it, not the typical black. It makes the bike look a bit more special. If one has not replaced a chain before, be aware that the chain may very well have more links than the one you are replacing. So, you will also need to remove the extra links as well as join the first and last link when the new chain is on the bike. I chose the IceToolz Chain Tool 7-10 Speed Shimano HG/IG/UG. If this is your first attempt at replacing a chain, go easy, do not rush. Do a dry fit of the chain around the crank and rear wheel derailleurs. The threading around the rear derailleur may not be that intuitive for you, it wasn't for me. So, I cross referenced to pictures of other bicycles. Then, try a practice link removal on your old chain to get you acquainted with the process.

By Rolf Gsteiger It took a loooong time to find one!!! Finally, I got one and it's already 500 km old. Thanks guys!
Lasted more than 10k miles on commuter bike Jun 23, 2012
By Bob The teeth were visibly wearing on the cassette (HG50 also >10k miles) so I changed out the chain too, the old IG50 was about 2% stretched but I probably could have gotten a couple thousand more miles. Of course it would start eating the crank gears by then! BTW, I use White Lightning about every 100 miles, clean the chain every 500 with kerosene.
so far (500mi) so good Sep 30, 2011

Arrived on time and was the real shimano deal. Works fine on my Shimano 105 8-speed triple setup. Seems a little pricey for just a chain, but I guess you pay for the Shimano name.
