A real life saver Jun 26, 2008
By Richard A. Wehe
"Bicyclist"
Four weeks ago while riding at 20 mph a squirrel darted from the side of the trail and into my front wheel. The wheel immediately stopped rotating and I somersaulted over the handlebars and landed directly on the left front of my Giro helmet. The helmet's interior broke in 4 sections and the exterior shell sustained a crushing blow. I suffered only a headache. That evening I ordered a new Giro Animas helmet and 2 weeks later I was back on the bike leading a 3 day tour up the Marin and Sonoma coastline. My doctor told me that the helmet likely prevented a serious and possibly fatal head injury. The Giro helmet is truly a life saver.
The Animus is a well designed, comfortable helmet that can be adjusted for a comfortable, secure fit. I will never be without it.

Hands down the best lid I've ever put on my noggin! Mar 14, 2011
By todrias I've had 2 of these helmets. My first was destroyed on the way to meeting some friends for a ride thanks to an unseen pothole that I hit doing 25mph. I went over the bars and landed on the right front of my head. The Animas took the brunt of the blow leaving my noggin intact, albiet a little dizzy. As a matter of fact I got up, borrowed an inferior helmet from a buddy and finished the ride. Later, at the behest of my wife, I went to the doctor due to soreness in my neck and shoulder from the flip. I showed my doc the helmet telling him how I landed. He was amazed that I was only just sore and not more seriously injured. He actually asked to keep the helmet to show other patients how they help save lives, to which I obliged. I immediately went out and bought my second which was stolen a few months later out of the hatch of my Range Rover by some redneck while I was at work. I am currently looking for another and am seriously considering buying the Pink one because it's got a great price and it's in my size. It's comfy and cool due to the massive vents. It's not the lightest out there, but at this pricepoint it's feather light. Hands down it's the best lid I've ever put on my noggin. Wish I had bought a dozen of them.

Very good helmet, typical Giro quality Jun 09, 2008

This is a very nice helmet which was acquired at a very reasonable cost for the quality construction that you get. With a lot of the new Giro models out this one probably doesn't get the high kudos that it should. Very comfortable and very sharp!
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that at high speeds such as whizzing downhill there seems to be a bit more wind noise created by my ears than my last Giro. However, not enough of a complaint to keep me from using it every day.
Fits my large noggin fine Aug 23, 2011
By Michael R. Wilson My hat size is 7.75, which is quite large. This helmet, which I've had for a few weeks, riding most every day, both on road and off road, is very comfortable.
The helmet comes with some spare pads that can be used to add padding inside the helmet as needed. Frankly I've not seen a need for them. Once I put the helmet on, I forget it's there, isn't that what comfort is all about?
