Not happy Sep 08, 2007
By Rollie This mirror, although the position is good when riding, is not practical. I was constantly trying to avoid hitting the mirror against anything such as a wall, pole or anything else. This is because it sticks out so much from the handlebars. You cannot flip your bike upside down to work on it with this mirror attached.
There is road vibration also. It takes a long time to figure out what is going on in the mirror. For example, at night there may be three cars behind you. But because of the vibration, it looks like 6 cars because what you see is 12 bouncing lights but it is really 6 bouncing lights from three cars with two headlights each.
Because of the optical curve, objects also appear different than in real life. So it is also hard to perceive depth. I returned mine and have a glasses mirror that works much better.
The reason I give it two stars is if you cannot wear a helmet or glasses mirror, then this mirror is better than riding unsafely with no mirror at all.

Rattles all over the place Jul 20, 2007

The velcro strap simply doesn't hold the mirror securely. You can see behind you only when you come to a complete halt.

updated review: mirror broke easily Jul 28, 2008
By Bob Neubauer I felt I had to go back and change my favorable review (below) after an incident last week. My bike fell over into SAND and the cheap plastic arm of this mirror shattered into pieces. It was such a minor fall and now the mirror is trash. The glass on the mirror is fine, but I can't use it on my bike. Perhaps it can be my signal mirror when I need to draw the attention of airplanes. No matter, the mirror is now useless. You've been warned.
Old review, now irrelevant:
I was all ready to give this mirror a scathing review, and call myself an idiot for not having heeded the warnings in previous reviews. Then I noticed I had attached it wrong (around the handlebar instead of the brake grips). So I'm still an idiot, but when I fixed it, the mirror gave me a pretty good view of what was following me. It didn't shift constantly, as some reviewers warned, but showed me the same view time after time, without the need for readjustment. So, although I still chastise Blackburn for getting rid of its great metal-handled mirrors, like the one I had in 1990 that lasted me 10 years, and replacing them with these flimsy plastic models, I can at least tell you the thing worked. Just install it right.

works well Jan 26, 2009
By John Diller I have used this mirror for years around town, commuting, and on tours and like it a lot. Big viewing space, easy to attach, easy to adjust while riding. Mine was just stolen so I'm buying another. I found that with the strap doubled back as per the instructions I got it plenty tight, and then there is an adjustment to get it tight once you find the right position (which wasn't quite as easy). It does bounce a bit, but I found I got used to this after a couple weeks and like it much better than the helmet mirrors which made me dizzy. If your brake cable comes out of the top of your brake on the handlebar instead of going under the handlebar tape or into the handlebars you can get the Mirrycle bike rear view mirror, which I have on my other bike and love even more.

Blackburn mirror a blur Sep 14, 2007
By Dennis Hart I used the Blackburn Brakehood mirror for one ride. As stated is other review, I could not see a thing until I was almost at a stop or riding on a road that was as smooth as glass.
I think the plastic is waaaay to thin and flexible. The mirror wobbled all over the place. I had the velcro pulled until it was ripping and it was still shaking all over. I returned it the same week. I am still searching for the old style Rhode Gear version that was made out of aluminum and was GREAT. Probably in the history books though.
I am a road rider and ride in the 14-18mph range. Maybe it would work better for the people who just ride around their neighborhood or to the ice cream shop and don't go over a few mph and have smooth roads(like anyone has that anymore) I can't say.
