Nice basket, just does not fit. Jun 18, 2009
By B. Lesley This is a great basket, it just does not fit the handlebars of my bike ! I would recommend buying this if you have a basic bike with slim handlebars, but if you have a mountain bike or hybrid, the handlebars may be too wide to be able to use the basket.

Lots of fun Aug 24, 2008
By Melmac This basket is just great. The size holds a paper sized grocery bag perfectly. The bracket for this basket drops onto the handle bars and leans against the handle bar stem. To ride around without the unit, simply lift it off. Or the basket comes off the bracket if you want to take it in shopping with you. The mesh bottom keeps things from falling through. I am having a great time with it.

PERFECT Jul 05, 2009
By Kelly S. The basket is great, very sturdy and strong. I did not want a big basket that fit out over the front tire, this does not. It fits a grocery bag very well. The mesh bottom is good so then items cannot fall through. Fits good on the bike handle bars and frame (I have a Schwinn beach cruiser). If I wanted I could probably use on my mountain bike, does not fit as well on the handle bars since they are a bit bigger around, but good clearance of the brake cables. Mostly I want to express how well of service I received. The basket arrived very quickly but the velcro strap(which is padded) that attaches the basket holder onto the bike frame was frayed...I contacted the store directly, they not only sent me a new strap, they sent a new holder as well...A note...the holder is different as the picture shows, it actually attaches to the basket and bike a little different. I am glad, I like it better. Great product and wonderful service......

Good, sturdy, attractive basket Oct 09, 2010
By Katherine This is a good basket, and I'm very happy I purchased it.
The item I received is the same as the one in the user pictures on the site, not quite the one in the official product picture. The differences are: 1) mesh ends a little bit higher in the basket, which just means that there is more protection for your smallest items from falling; 2) the mounting for the basket has two hooks that poke through the bottom* rather than a shelf to hold the whole bottom, which means that when you remove the basket the mount is not so bulky on your bike; 3) the hooks for your handlebars have a rubberish padding that keeps the basket on your bike snugly and protects both the basket and bike. Overall, I think these differences are improvements on the basket!
*Note, I don't think that the "poking" aspect will harm any of the items in your basket. Nor do I believe that this mechanism provides another place for items to fall through; it's a tight fit.
In addition to what I mentioned above, here are some of the things I like about the basket: 1) It's a great size. You could stick many types of bags in it, or keep it as its own basket. But it's not too bulky. The walls are tall enough that items won't jump out when you hit a bump. 2) I like that it's removable. It's perfect for groceries and similar outings, and it's easy to take off if you want to ride without a basket. 3) I like that it's part, but not all mesh. I wanted mesh so that I could keep small items in it without them falling out. But with all mesh, I would not be able to lock the basket to my bike with my cable bike lock. I live somewhere where the basket would definitely be stolen if I could not lock it in place, but my cable fits through the larger slats. 4) As far as baskets are concerned, it's reasonably attractive. 5) It is incredibly easy to use. 6) My front light can stay on my handlebars and will still be visible over the top of the basket due to the basket's hook locations.
Here are a few things I didn't like as much: 1) In my mind it's TOO easy to put on and take off the mount part of the basket. I wish the basket was as easily removable, but that the mount was bolted on. As I said, I'm worried about theft, and I can't lock the mount itself to my bike (not that someone would steal a mount without a basket, right?) 2) It's a little heavy, but honestly I think that just means it's sturdy, so I'm ok with it. 3) Very minor, because it was easy -- there were no instructions for putting it together. Just FYI if you buy one and need help, here's what to do: a) place the hooks over your front handlebars. If they don't fit, you'll need a workaround or you'll need to return the item. b) use the velcro strap to fasten the lower area around the tube that leads down the front of your bike. c) hook the basket into the mount in TWO places: one is by inserting the mount's bottom wires into the holes at the bottom of the basket. The other way is to insert the handle ends into the loops at the top of the mounting. BEWARE: your handles might be put on backwards, in which case you can't insert them into the loops. I had to take them off and flip them for the top loop attachment to work. Very easy, but I had to figure that's what I needed to do.
I also believe the customer service on this product will be good if I run into a problem. The item was delivered FOUR days ahead of the earliest day in the estimated window, and when I received it the company left a note that said to please contact them with any problems.
I am updating my review after more use. I will keep it at 5 stars, but would switch to 4.5 if I could. The basket is still great, but one time my bike fell and the basket bent slightly. It was a really small bend, but it was enough so that the attachment of the basket to the mount became very weak. It was unusable, because the basket would bump off of the mounting every time I hit a bump. When I took my bike to the shop (for other reasons) I had to ask them to bend the basket straight so that it would work again. Now it works great again. But just an FYI and related to the fact that this basket is easy release. If I had gotten one that had a more firm and/or permanent attachment, it getting bent from a fall wouldn't have meant it was unusable.

Terrific, but not obvious Aug 13, 2011

I bought another basket that has rails to the front fork only to find that if you have a quick release front wheel you need to have a bike shop provide the fork eyelets for attaching the rails. If I wanted to involve a bike shop, I wouldn't be ordering parts from Amazon. So I ordered this basket because it doesn't attach to the front wheel fork at all.
I would have given this five stars, except that it took me some time to figure out the trick of attaching the basket--while one simple diagram would have eliminated the frustration. Attaching the basket holder is very simple, the two hooks hook over the handlebar and a velcro band wraps around the vertical handlebar stem. But attaching the basket to the holder involves a simple trick -- simple once you know it, and maybe I'm unusually dense, but it took a while to figure it out. Once you use this trick the basket is so secure that I really have to wonder whether or not some of the other reviewers who have had problems with the basket falling off or moving might not have used the trick.
You cannot attach the basket (which freely lifts off) to the basket holder (which stays attached to the handlebar) if you have the two large basket handles laying down. You need to have the two large basket handles vertical. If you do that, you hook the bottom of the basket to the two bottom prongs on the holder, and simply lean the basket back into the holder -- two hooks at the very ends of the wire basket handles pass through two openings in the holder, and then laying the basket handles down horizontal rotates those two hooks so that the basket is secure. Like I said, it cries out for a diagram.
The thing is the basket looks as though it should drop down onto those two wire shapes in the holder, in which case attaching would have nothing to do with the position of the handles. This doesn't work. Before my wife figured out the correct method I got out my hammer and was trying to force the basket down onto the holder. You don't need to force anything -- just have the basket handles up. as they are when you carry the basket by the handles, and you can slip the handle ends smoothly into the holder, lower the handles, and it holds very well indeed.
That said, I'm just doing city street biking -- really rough off road terrain might cause the handles to fly up, which might cause the basket to come loose. But once in properly, the handles have to be brought way up to release the basket -- which is exactly what you do when you pick it up by the handles. If in doubt, any simple clip or twist-tie would keep the handles secured in the horizontal position--don't see why you would need more than one for each handle -- they wouldn't get stressed much.
Anyway, love the basket--easiest install ever, if you know the trick.
