5Great little bag for a bike commuter  Jul 14, 2011 By Emily WK
I love this little bag!

I commute to work by bike and I need to be able to take a change of clothes, my iPad, and a lunch bag with me, along with the regular bike stuff (extra tube, a pump, a bike lock). I hated leaving my panniers on the bike while it was locked up at work, but I also hated carrying them around because they were so awkward.

Enter this bag.

The strap is easily tucked up under the top flap while it's on the bike and is adjustable. The padding is non-existent, but I would add a pad to it if I wanted to carry it for any considerable distance.

It has the drawstring enclosure, which I didn't really understand until I realized how much stuff you can pile on the top of it - you really can fit so much more by piling on top and closing the drawstring over it.

The integrated rain shield is something I haven't had to use yet, but knowing it's there has been good - knowing that I have it and don't have to worry about it.

I wish that the pockets on the side were a little more usable, though. When there is a lot of stuff in the main area, the pockets are small and don't fit very much. I keep a plastic grocery bag and a couple of dollars in mine, but I can't really put much in them.

The pocket on the top is great for keys and wallet and any of the little things on your bike that you wouldn't leave when you walk away from it. The attachment to the bike doesn't have the elastic that connects further down on the frame like my other panniers do, but I've never had issues with it coming loose or falling off.

All in all, I love this bag. It is useful and stylish enough that I don't feel stupid or awkward carrying it around at work.

5Might just get another one  Aug 03, 2011 By etane
So, I just landed a job that is only 4.5 miles from home. Might as well get a rack and a bag and start pedaling to work!

I asked around whether people biked to work or bring their bikes into the office with them. To my dismay, people don't bike commute and bringing the bike into the office is a no no. That sucks because that means I have to park my vintage bike with precious Campagnolo bits out in the sun for all to touch and maybe steal.

What's more is that I have to detach everything off my bike whenever I park it outside. Not only do I have to bring a bike lock with me but also have to put the bike pump, bike computer, lights etc. in the bike bag and lug it into the office with me. It would be so much cooler to just park the bike in my office without having to detach everything.

The Basil bag makes this transition easy for me though. The bag is easy to attach and detach from bike rack and it has lots of small pockets to stow my pump, spare tire, tire lever, as well as my work stuff including a 13" laptop with sleeve, notebooks and a work shirt.

The bag looks smart. When carrying the bag over the shoulder with the included strap, it looks like a hybrid between a duffle bag and a backpack. It's a very stylish looking bag and really looks unique.

I would like there to be more metal pieces as every hardware on the bag is plastic. Having the buckles, shoulder strap attachments and rack hook made of metal would give the bag a higher perceived value. But, it might also make the bag noisier and heavier too so who knows.

Well, overall, I am satisfied. Satisfied with the bag's utility and style. The reflective safety strip gives me an added sense of security not that I've been hit by a car before. And, lastly, it has a nice handle at the top of the bag. I use it to hang the bag on my office wall. See what I mean about the bag's utility?
