5Well made light weight rack  Jul 26, 2008 By K. Sartain
Strongly constructed welded light weight alloy with tough powder coat finish. The 3 supports make for a strong rack. Stainless steel mounting hardware keeps it rust free. You may have to bend the mounting brackets slightly to fit your bike which is typical of all racks.

4Reasonable price, easy mount, good features  Sep 28, 2009 By Hollis Hanover
I needed a rack to mount panniers and picked this one more or less by guess. It is easy to mount (at least on my Trek hybrid) with clear directions. The side braces permit mounting the panniers rearward sufficiently to avoid heel contact with the bags. I loaded the panniers rather heavily, but the rack did not suffer. The matte black finish survived a rather gravelly, gritty five day ride without scratches. Pretty good product. Buy it.

4Fits MOST bikes, but not mine without wrangling  Jun 22, 2009 By J. Weight
This rack looks great, and if my bike had all the appropriate mounting holes it would be awesome. Unfortunately, it doesn't. The rack comes with additional hardware that isn't mentioned in the instructions, and I was able to make use of it to mount the rack, but the instructions said that if I didn't have the lower mounting holes, they don't recommend using the rack on the bike. Oh well, you do what you have to do sometimes.

I was able to get the rack mounted using only the supplied hardware, even though I had none of the mounting holes on my frame. I did end up simply bending the top mounting hardware around the frame, which isn't the most secure and is what concerns me the most, but we'll see how it goes. I'll update the review after I have a couple of commutes in. All in all I think it'll work ok.

5Great rack, requires some tweaking.  Jul 23, 2010 By Justin
I bought this rack because of the good feedback that it has been receiving. It seemed like a good option because of the price and strong appearance. Overall, it is a fantastic choice. You do need to be prepared to do some modifications to get it on.

The rack came with a baggy of hardware, a cardboard sleeve (with instructions), and the rack itself. It is everything that you should, in theory, need to get it mounted to your bike. You will need to have holes available on your frame (near the rear wheel and up by the seat post) for maximum stability. My bike only had the holes down by the wheel. I used the supplied bolts to hold it in place. I don't have any holes near the seat so I had to try using the provided P clamps.

The problem with the mounting was that the clamps used in place of seat stay holes were too small. They would not wrap around my frame to provide a mounting point for the upper rails. This shouldn't be a problem for people that have seat stay mounting points already on their frame. You may have to bend the metal straps in order to get them to align and stay level. I'm not certain about this because I don't have them. The instructions on the cardboard sleeve to say that you may (and likely will) have to bend the straps.

In place of the metal straps at the top, I used a short (about 6") bungee cord. I weaved it around my seat stays and the lip of the rack. This has been able to keep it very stable without the hassle of buying larger P clamps and bending the metal mounting straps. I was planning on using the bungee cord only as a temporary solution but it seems like it will be able to hold up for a while. It's just one option to consider when trying to mount this rack without mounting holes near the seat. It's not the best looking solution but it definitely beats having a wobbly rack.

I see no reason to detract a star from this product's rating because of the mounting issue. This seems like something that's hardly avoidable with any rack. It should be expected that you will have to modify some stuff a little bit for the best fit. Luckily, this rack didn't need much. The bungee cord I'm using is holding up great!

On a side note, it feels great being able to leave the backpack at home. I used to have to carry extra water bottles in my backpack because my frame only has set of braze-ons for water bottle cages. Now I can stash my wallet, keys, phone, and extra bottles in my trunk bag. It's nice to take several pounds of load off of my back!

I would recommend this rack to anyone that wants an affordable rack that is nearly universal. It looks like it would be able to support some panniers without letting them get into the wheel. I don't have any panniers to confirm this but I do plan on getting some in the near future. I'm using it with a trunk bag that I bought and everything attaches nicely. It feels secure and reliable. I can hardly think of a reason to spend much more than this on a rack, honestly. There may be benefits to spending more money, but they probably don't apply to my needs. This seems more than capable of holding my trunk bag, some panniers (in the future), and allowing me to mount a reflector or light.

I would also like to express my gratitude toward Amazon. The rack was shipped very quickly (thanks to free 2 day shipping with my Prime account) and it arrived safely. I'm very pleased with Amazon offering free Prime accounts to college students. I can see how this is going to save me a lot of money and time over the course of the year. Thanks a lot, Amazon!

That's about all I have to say about this rack. Go ahead and put one in your cart. Heck, put two so your riding buddy can have one, too. You are not likely to be disappointed. At this price, there's no reason to pass on this rack!

5Universal fit  Jul 24, 2011 By Michael
My bike didn't have the regular pre-drilled mounting holes for a rear rack, but this came with special mounting brackets that made it very easy to get a tight, level fit.
